Abstract

1445797 Diffusible dye releasing photographic dyes KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 25 March 1974 [28 March 1973] 13037/74 Heading C4P [Also in Division G2] A diffusible-dye releasing type dye, which is capable of yielding a diffusible dye along with a colourless compound in a colour development process, has the formula where A is a radical having an active methylene or methine group at the position to which D is connected, and which reacts with an oxidation product of a colour developing agent in a colour developement process to yield a colourless compound, and D is a dye residue carrying watersolubilizing radicals. A may have the formula where Y is H, halogen, optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclyl, OR 1 [where R 1 is optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclyl, -COR 2 or -SO 2 R 2 (where R 2 is optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclyl)] or -COOR 3 (where R 3 is optionally substituted alkyl or cycloalkyl); and R is -COR 4 (where R 4 is H, OH, R 0 , OR 0 , N(R 0 ) 2 , NH 2 or NHR 0 ), C=NH(R 0 ), SO 2 R 5 [where R 5 is H, R 0 , OR 0 or N(R 0 ) 2 ], -SOR 5 , CN or N+(R 6 ) 3 anion- (where R 6 is H or R 0 ) where R 0 is aliphatic, aryl or heterocyclyl and, in case there are two or more R 0 s in the one radical, two of these R 0 s may together form an N-containing heterocyclic ring. Alternatively A may have the formula where Z completes a carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring. The syntheses of compounds of the formulµ are described where the active methylene or methine group is asterisked.
