Abstract

1445669 Rolling; boring heads MADISON INDUSTRIES GmbH 3 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 52208/74 Headings B3M and B3C A tool for shaving the internal surface 1 of a workpiece comprises a shaving head 2 and a rolling head 3 with a set of tapered rollers 14 in a cage 9. The rollers engage the workpiece surface automatically on the return stroke of the tool. The shaving head has a cutter blade 6 in a holder 5 and is removed from the head after the forward stroke so that only rolling occurs on the return stroke. Fluid such as oil is directed axially of the tool during shaving to remove chips. The rollers engage a cone 8 fixed on a shaft 7 so as to be moved radially to engage the workpiece surface upon retraction of the tool. The tool has a shaft 7 for mounting the heads 2, 3 and the shaft may be two-part (7a), (7b), Fig. 3 (not shown), to enable roller changing.
