Abstract

1445631 Ceramic pyrroelectric composition DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 28 March 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 6744/73 Heading C1J [Also in Division H1] A ceramic composition for use in a pyrroelectric device (see Division H1) comprises lead zirconate and lead titanate in solid solution doped with sufficient of a uranium oxide to provide a resistivity times dielectric constant product of between 5 Î 10<SP>11</SP> and 5 Î 10<SP>13</SP> ohm cm. Preferably the mol ratio of lead zirconate to lead titanate is from 60 : 40 to 90 : 10. The uranium oxide may be U 3 O 8 constituting up to 1À5% by weight of the ceramic. After repeated ball-milling in distilled water, sieving, compacting and breaking up of a mixture of PbO, ZnO 2 and TiO 2 , the uranium oxide is added, and after further milling and sieving the powder is formed into sintered discs which may be ground to a desired thickness.
