Abstract

1445527 Linear motors LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GmbH 28 March 1974 [31 March 1973] 13851/74 Heading H2A An asynchronous linear motor having a plurality of stator units along the motor path is controlled in speed by providing a moving rotor of laminated construction having at least one variable impedance multiphase winding in its slots. In the Fig. 7 embodiment in which the motor is used for a tracked vehicle the rotor 36 has two sets of windings 27, 28 on each side of its axis. These co-operate with stator windings 25, 26 producing a magnetic field 30 to drive the rotor. The rotor is sufficiently wide to make the sum of the air gaps 31, 32 less than one fifth the gap 33 between the stator units so that the reactance of the stator adjacent the rotor is much higher than where the rotor is absent. Thus several stator units can be connected in series, the potential divider provided by the presence of the rotor ensuring that most of the voltage is applied to drive the rotor thereby minimizing losses. When only one winding is supplied (Fig. 4, not shown) the stator units are sequentially energized by magnetic sensors at each end of the rotor (Fig. 6, not shown).
