1445438 Monoazo disperse dyestuffs GAF CORP 19 Nov 1973 [27 Dec 1972] 53535/73 Heading C4P Novel dyestuffs of the formula wherein Z<SP>1</SP> is H, Cl, Br, FCN, SCN, CF 3 , lower alkylsulphonyl, lower alkanoyl, benzoyl or lower alkoxycarbonyl, or carbamoyl or sulphamoyl optionally N-mono- or N,N-di-lower alkyl-substituted; Z<SP>2</SP> is H, NO 2 , or one of the Z<SP>1</SP> substituents; X is SO 2 R, SO 2 OR, COR or CO 2 R in which R is lower alkyl, phenyl, tolyl or benzyl; Y is H, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; R<SP>3</SP> is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl or lower alkynyl optionally substituted by Cl, Br, F, dialkylamino, CN, SCN, OH, lower alkoxy, poly- (lower alkylene)oxy, (lower alkoxy)carbonyl, lower alkanoyloxy or benzoyloxy, or by carbamoyl optionally N-mono- or N,N-di-lower alkyl-substituted, or -NR<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP> is morpholino, piperidino, pyrrolidino or piperazino, optionally lower alkyl-substituted; R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each H or one of the R<SP>3</SP> values; R<SP>4</SP> is H or lower alkyl ; "lower" refers to groups with 1-4 carbon atoms exept that lower alkanoyl has 2-5 carbon atoms; and n is 1, 2 or 3; and R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and/or R<SP>3</SP> are optionally substituted by a pyridinium, 2-pyrrolidinon-1-yl or phthalimido group, and their quaternary salts, are prepared by conventional diazotization and coupling, the coupling components being prepared in situ generally from the appropriate anilines and acrylamides. Other methods are described but not exemplified. The dyes are used to dye polyesters and other synthetic materials such as cellulose acetates, polyamides, polyurethanes, polyolefins and polyacrylonitriles, alone or admixed with natural fibres such as cotton, silk and wool.
