1445287 The derivatives of Iboga type alkaloids OMNIUM CHIMIQUE SA 21 Oct 1974 [24 Oct 1973] 45410/74 Heading C2C The invention relates to the alkaloid derivatives of formulae wherein R 2 and R 3 either represent hydrogen atoms, or R 2 represents a hydrogen atom and R 3 a methoxyl group, or R 2 represents a methoxyl group and R 3 a hydrogen atom, or R 2 and R 3 represent methoxyl groups; and R 1 represents a hydrogen atom or one of the following groups, either -COOCH 3 , or -CH 2 OR, in which R represents an acyl radical, or in which n is 2, or 3, and R 4 and R 5 represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals or together form with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded a heterocyclic group, or in which R 4 and R 5 have the same meaning as above. These compounds may be obtained by oxidizing a corresponding derivative of an Iboga alkaloid type of the general formula in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are as defined above. If the oxidation is carried out by means of chromium sesquichloride and pyridine complex, a compound of Formula II is obtained whereas by using iodine in a medium buffered with sodium bicarbonate a compound of Formula III is obtained. The invention also comprises a pharmaceutical composition which contains as an active ingredient a compound according to the invention in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
