Abstract

1444849 Bar-stock feeding POLYMER CORP 29 Aug 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 37832/74 Heading B3B [Also in Divisions C3 and F2] A bar-stock guide tube for metal working machine tools comprises an elongate outer cylindrical metal tube 10 and a sound dampening liner 11 made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene mounted coaxially in said tube 10. A foamed thermoplastic material 12, e.g. polyurethane, may be disposed intermediate said tube 10 and the liner 11. The said foamed material may be in the form of a spirally wound ribbon adhered to the liner with an air space 13 left between each convolution, or may be injected under pressure when the liner 11 is in situ with the tube 10, the liner in this case being provided with longitudinal ribs. The interior of the liner 11 may be wear reinforced by an embedded flat spiral metal ribbon. The liner is retained in the tube 10 by end rings 14 which may be screwed into the tube or, as shown, are retained by rolling a depression 17 in the tube 10 to engage a groove 18 formed in the rings 14.
