Abstract

1444194 Repairing linings of coke oven riser tubes CERAMTEC GmbH 18 April 1974 [30 July 1973] 17033/74 Heading C5E The lining of a riser tube of a coke oven is repaired in situ by applying a fire-resistant composition to the defective part while (a) introducing a stream of cold air into the riser tube below the defective part and causing it to flow downward through the riser tube and into the oven and (b) preventing hot air rising through the tube by providing an obstruction within the riser tube between the defective part and the point of introduction of the cold air. Apparatus for use in the above process comprises an insertable portion having two concentric cylindrical walls which form an annular gap 48 of outer diameter corresponding to the inner diameter of the repaired lining. Compressed air is passed down a guide tube 30 and then through the annular gap 48, the fire-resistant composition is sprayed into the space between the inner wall 14 of the riser tube and the outer wall 44 of the insertable portion and the insertable portion is slowly raised as the repair proceeds. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates a device comprising a frame carrying three rollers and a tackle block for raising, lowering and guiding the guide tube 30 upon which the insertable portion is mounted; the riser tube is provided with a hinged cover.
