Abstract

1443988 Plastic-elastic compositions CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 11 Dec 1973 [15 Dec 1972] 57352/73 Heading C3P Plastic-elastic compositions comprise by weight (1) 8 to 25 per cent of a largely amorphous solid polyolefin, (2) 10 to 40 per cent of a polybutene oil, (3) 10 to 30 per cent of a rubber, (4) 30 to 70 per cent of a filler and optionally (5) 1 to 10 per cent of a drying oil. The polyolefin may be atactic polypropylene, polyhexene-1, atactic polybutene-1 and butene-1 copolymer with ethylene and/or propylene or hexene-1. The rubbers may be natural, butadiene styrene, butadiene/acrylonitrile, butyl, cispolybutadiene, cis - polyisoprene, ethylene/ propylene or ethylene/propylene/diene rubbers. The fillers may be silica, silicates, sulphates, carbonates, carbon black, graphite, talc, kaolin or chalk. The drying oil may be a polybutadiene oil or unsaturated triglyceride, and may be mixed with a cobalt, lead or manganese salt dryer. The compositions may be used for making elastic sealing and jointing strips. Examples describe compositions comprising polybutene oils together with (1) amorphous polybutene or butene/propylene copolymer, ethylene/propylene rubber, chalk and carbon black; (2) amorphous polybutene or butene/ethylene copolymer, ethylene/propylene rubber and talc; (3) amorphous butene/propylene/ethylene terpolymer, ethylene/propylene and/or butadiene/styrene rubber and chalk; and (4) amorphous butene/ hexene copolymer, butadiene/styrene rubber, kaolin, carbon black, linseed or polybutadiene oil and cobalt octoate.
