Abstract

1443984 Liq. treatment of fabric webs RIGGS & LOMBARD INC 28 Nov 1973 55106/73 Heading D1L In the treatment of a moving textile web with liquids e.g. scouring, wherein a liquid is applied across the width of the web and a vacuum across the centre portion of the web, the latter is prevented from curling at the edges by marginally gripping the web and moving it in a flat state through the treatment zones whilst applying jets of gas against the marginal edges of the web so as to remove excess liq. on the edges, before drying. The liquid may be applied alternately in the form of high pressure jets and sheets of liquid. The margins of the web may be gripped by pin chains. As shown in the Figure 1, the apparatus is generally indicated by the numeral 10, which comprises a housing defined by the walls 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24, which contains an inlet slot 26, and an outlet slot 28 through which web 12 is fed. The web is first fed on to a pair of parallel pin chains 30 and 32 (later not shown on Figure 1) the pins engaging the marginal edges of the web. The pin chains form closed loops which are carried continuously through the housing by interior and exterior pulleys and roll 62 presses the marginal edges of the web onto the pins. The web then passes through slot 26 and scouring station 64 wherein the liquid is applied by a plurality of bars 66 and 68 which apply jets 70, of liquid across the width of the web and arcuate baffles 72 attached to the bars converts the spray discharge into a curtain 76 of liquid which removes oil and dirt from the web. The liquid passing through the web is collected and recirculated via troughs 80, 82 and 84 and pumps 86, 88 and 90. From station 64, the web is carried over suction box 94 which removes liquid from the centre portion of the web but not the edges from which the liquid is removed by high pressure air jets directed by nozzles 98 and 100. From the suction box and air jets the web is drawn under an optional spraying station 104 where treatment and finishing agents can be applied to the scoured web, past a second suction box 105, through drying chamber 102, out of the housing via slot 28, and the web separated from the pin chain and stored.
