Abstract
1443701 Road-traffic signalling PEAK TECHNOLOGIES Ltd 16 July 1973 [17 July 1972] 33375/72 Heading G4Q An automatic traffic signal system includes a microwave radar mounted on each traffic signal column, an egg-shaped radiation pattern aimed such that its centre of intersection with the road is where a conventional vehicle detector would be, Figs. 2, 3 (neither shown), and the radar-controlled traffic signal circuitry is tuned to ignore frequency components characteristic of pedestrians. Radar &c. unit, Fig. 1.-Positive D.C. on terminal B is applied to an integrated circuit voltage regulator VR to supply a resonant cavity housing a Gunn diode transmitter receiver described in Specification 1,317,175. The output of amplifier A1 is fed to the base of a transistor VT1. A moving target-"pedestrian" frequencies are removed by capacitors C6, C10 and high-frequency noise by capacitor C9-causes transistor VT1 to conduct and relay RL1 to drop out to control conventionally a traffic signal. Single-lane working necessitates modification to distinguish direction of vehicle travel by using two mixer-detector diodes.
