Abstract
1443453 Polymerisation apparatus SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 27 June 1973 [29 June 1972] 30517/73 Heading B1X A process for carrying out a continuous reaction e.g. polymerisation, comprises transporting a reacting viscous mass through a pipe reactor, a layer of a liquid having a lower viscosity than the viscous mass being maintained between the wall of the reactor and the viscous mass. In apparatus for carrying out the process, means is provided for maintaining the layer of lower viscosity at a thickness of at least 0.05% of the maximum diameter of the viscous mass, and means is provided for introducing a wave pattern to the interface 'between the reactor wall and the lower viscosity liquid and/or between the lower viscosity liquid and the viscous mass.
