Abstract

1443413 Gas burners; water heaters T I DOMESTIC APPLIANCES Ltd 10 July 1973 [17 April 1972 and 18 Oct 1972] 17691/72 and 47926/72 Headings F4T and F4A A heat exchange assembly comprises a gaseous fuel-mixture burner having an outlet 23 within which is located a diffuser head comprising an assembly of spaced finned pipes 25 which form passages for coolant fluid, the spaces between the fins and pipes constituting the flame parts of the burner, a duct 22a for supplying gaseous fuel mixture to the burner, and exchange means 31 located in close proximity to the diffuser head and defining therewith a combustion chamber 32 for the burner. A mixer 22 for the apparatus may be as shown in Fig. 1 and comprises a gas supply pipe 14 entering the mixing chamber via slots 12 inclined to create a vortex in duct 2 and draw in air through inlet 9. An alternative mixer has gas inlet orifices located between adjacent surfaces of two parts, which surfaces are separated by a resilient member, said parts being adjustable to alter the compression of the resilient member and thus the size of the orifices. The outlet of a first air/ gas mixing chamber may lead into a second mixing chamber where further air is added (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown). The air/gas mixture may be supplied to the diffuser head by a plurality of ducts fed from the same, or resspective, mixers or from a plurality of mixers each feeding a group of ducts. The mixers may be as disclosed in Specification 1,362,781. The heat exchange means 31 comprises a plurality of interconnected parallel finned pipes 30 one of which is connected via connector 29 with header 26 at one end of the diffuser head.
