Abstract

1443191 Dental turbine handpiece D MO SIMANN [trading as BIEN-AIR D MOSIMANN] 14 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 43333/73 Heading A5R A dental turbine handpiece has a sleeve 1 with twinned conduits 4, 5 for air and water supplied from concentric conduits 19, 21 in a flexible pipe 7, the connection between the sleeve and pipe including an end fitting 23 rotatable by means of bearing 43 in a body 30 having outlets 9, 10 for coupling to conduits 4, 5, a nut 13 located on the body engaging a thread 16 on the sleeve for securing the connection. The path for the air between conduit 19 and outlet 9 includes bore 27 in end fitting 23, axial grooves 32, chamber 33 and channel 34. The water passes through tubes 25 and 35 and transverse channel 36. Tube 35 is sealed by O-ring 37 and further rings 40,.41 are provided. In a modification the rotary bearing 43 is provided within sleeve 1 between non circular section components 53 and 54, a sleeve 57 being provided to lock the components together to prevent relative rotation when it is required to connect or disconnect pipe 7. The sleeve is slidable between its operative and non-operative positions and has an aperture 60 for introducing a maintenance product when aligned with aperture 59, with the sleeve in its operative position. Seals 61, 62 obturate aperture 59 in the inoperative position of the sleeve. Perforations 51 provide for the escape of turbine air.
