Abstract

1443123 Plastics fastener ITW Ltd 22 April 1975 [22 April 1974] 17569/74 Heading F2H [Also in Division E2] A fastener which is an integral plastics moulding comprises a pointed leading end 10, a bifurcated shank section 12 comprising shank portions 14, 16, the radially outer surfaces of which diverge from the leading end and then converge, flanges 22, 24 being formed at the ends of the shank portions, and a pin 30 connected by thin fillets 26, 28 to the radially inner surfaces of the shank portions, the pin having a domed head 32 the periphery of which extends radially beyond flanges 22, 24. The sides of the pin in contact with the shank portions, and the faces 34, 36 of those pistons may be formed with complementary ratchet teeth to ensure that once inserted, the pin may not be removed from space 31. In use, a plastics sheet material may be attached to a frame member by laying the sheet material over an aperture in the frame member, placing the leading end of the fastener over the aperture, and pushing the leading end of the fastener through the plastics material into the aperture until flanges 22, 24 prevent further motion inwards. Pressure is then applied to head 32 of the pin so as to break the fillets and allow the pin to pass into space 31, thereby securing the fastener in the aperture.
