1443071 Producing embossed polyvinyl alcohol film BRITISH CELLOPHANE Ltd 26 July 1974 [27 July 1973] 35901/73 Headings B5A and B5B A method of producing a patterned film of a water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol comprises casting an aqueous solution of the polyvinyl alcohol on to a casting patterned surface consisting of a synthetic rubber, drying and stripping the film from the surface. The casting surface may have a relief or intaglio pattern formed by moulding, cutting or producing stereos as in flexographic printing. The surface may be formed of butyl or silicone rubber, may be continuous in the form of a rotatable drum or endless belt and may be provided with a background of fine-spaced lines to improve antiblocking of the film. The pattern may comprise a design and/or descriptive wording. The P.V.A. may contain a plasticizer, e.g. glycerol, a colouring material or a medicament, e.g. a spermicide. The P.V.A. film may be made into a bag for products to be dissolved or dispersed in water, e.g. insecticides, dry bleaches, disinfectants.
