Abstract
1443031 Cathode-ray tubes RAYTHEON CO 20 July 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 34630/73 Heading H1D [Also in Division H4] A display system comprises a C.R.T. with a screen 41 adapted to emit light of different colours depending on the velocity of incident electrons, electrode 39, for applying an electric field adjacent the screen means 21 for applying a plurality of voltages to electrode 39 and a control circuit 15 which controls the source 21 and applies a signal to the beam deflection amplifiers 17, 19 to vary their gains and ensure that the beam deflection for a given deflection control signal from circuit 13 is constant, and unaffected by the voltage from source 21. The C.R.T. includes a phosphor layer 41 coated with Al in contact with conductive coating 39 to which the variable voltage is applied. The remainder of the envelope has a conductive coating 38 separated by a gap 46 from coating 39. These coatings may be replaced by a spiral extending from the screen towards the gun or by a plurality of spaced coated areas. The screen comprises multilayered phosphor particles or several layers of phosphors each emitting a different coloured light. The system comprises either a random access radar display or a swept raster display. The system includes a vector generator 11 and a circuit 13 which corrects the signal on lines 31, 32 to compensate for the screen being flat rather than spherical. The magnetic deflection yoke 18 may be replaced by electrostatic deflecting means.
