Abstract

1442989 Reciprocating conveyers DAVEYLOEWY Ltd 21 Sept 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 46638/72 Heading B8A [Also in Division B3] Conveying apparatus, for moving rolled beams 3A, 3B from a cooling bank 1 to a roller table 4, includes a number of independent carriages 6 each of which is movable along a track 5, Fig. 4, and which can be raised or lowered. Each carriage supports a carrier 8 on which a horizontal shoe 10 and a vertical plate 9 are carried. The shoe is adjustable relative to the plate 9 using holes 13. To shift a beam, the carriages are moved by pulley-driven cables to the left until the plates 9 engage the beam. The tracks 5 are then raised to lift the shoes beneath the beam, and the carriages are moved to positions above the roller table. Lowering of the tracks causes the beam to be deposited on the table. To accommodate the carriages to curved or distorted beams, each carrier 8 is slidable relative to the carrier 6. After a shifting operation, all the carriers are realigned by moving them against a right-hand stop 15. Alternatively, the carriers may be fixed in the carriages and slipping clutches in the driving system may be employed.
