Abstract

1442799 Trimming welded rails ELEKTROTHERMIT GmbH 28 Dec 1973 [28 Dec 1972] 59964/73 Heading B3W Excess weld metal is removed from the head portion of welded rails by shearing cutters 8 and 9 shaped to the profile of the rail head and mounted on cross heads 7, 10 respectively rigid with parallel cylinders 3 and with the piston rods 12 of the cylinders. With the apparatus mounted on a rail, supplying fluid to the cylinders at 13 causes the cutters 8, 9, which have aligned cutting edges, to move towards each other. Stops 14 prevent the cutters from striking each other. To prevent the cutters lifting off the rail during the shearing plates 15 are slidable in guide slots in the cross heads 7, 10 for engagement under the rail head.
