Abstract

1442611 Fixing toner images A K CHATTERJI 5 June 1973 [5 June 1972] 26907/73 Heading G2H A copying apparatus of the type in which a heat-fusible toner image is produced on the surface of a copy substrate, includes a rotatable radiant energy receiver having a curved surface, a radiant energy emitter 41 mounted adjacent the receiver to heat the latter by means of radiant energy directed thereon, and means 54 for transporting a copy substrate with a toner image thereon tangentially past the curved surface to cause substantially pressureless contact between the toner image and the curved surface so that the image is fused and thus fixed to the copy substrate. As shown the apparatus is an electro-photographic apparatus having a photo-receptor drum 16 on which a toner image is formed and transferred to a paper substrate; the image-forming exposure of an original D may be effected using light from the radiant energy emitter 41 which is constituted by two lamps, the light being transmitted by one or two optical fibres 46, 46'. The imaged substrate is then contacted with the heated receiver 40 (in the form of a cylinder) using a frame 52 having spaced steel discs 53 with rubber rings. The surface of cylinder 40 may be coated with a release agent. An electrical control system is described.
