Abstract

1442372 Punching ALLMANNA SVEN ELEKTRISKA AB 4 Oct 1973 [5 Oct 1972] 46365/73 Heading B3W Two rows of blanks 6 of annular sector shape, having first and second curved edges 10, 9 corresponding respectively to the inner and outer peripheries of the annulus and two radial edges 7, 8 which subtend an angle at the centre of the annulus of between 40 and 80 degrees, are punched from metal strip, the width of which is greater than the radius of the first curved edge 10 and less than twice the radius of the second curved edge 9, by first feeding the strip through a punch press with tools shaped to the blank profile and with a cutting edge corresponding to one of the radial edges parallel to and almost coincident with one edge of the strip. Blanks are punched successively from half the width of the strip and the remaining strip width 13 is coiled and fed again through the punch press with the cutting edge referred to now parallel to, and almost coinciding with, the opposite edge of the original strip. This is done either by feeding the coil through the press again from the same side or feeding it from the discharge side after turning the punch through 180 degrees. The scrap portion 18 produced in the first punching operation is severed by a scrap cutter 19. The press includes feed rolls 17 and it is preferably a portion of the press comprising only the punch tools (3), (4) Fig. 1, not shown the rolls 17 and the cutter 19 which is turnable. Loop sag indicators (16) and (20) precede and follow the press and a brake device (21) subjects the strip portion 13 to tension, inducing in the strip tensile stress of more than 5 per cent of the stress at the elastic limit of strip of between 0À20 and 0À60 mm. thickness.
