Abstract

1442132 Optical playback of rotary disc records PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 31 Aug 1973 [2 Sept 1972] 41112/73 Heading G5R An optical playback unit 2 is movably mounted beneath a rotating disc record 1 which is stabilized by means of a plate disposed parallel to and above the record. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the stabilizing plate 10 is imperforate so that the partial centrifugal expulsion of the air between the plate 10 and the disc 1 causes the disc 1 to be pressed against the plate 10 which rotates with the disc. Alternatively, Fig. 2, the stabilizing plate 12 is hinged at 13 to form a lid and has a central hole 14 through which ambient air can flow to maintain a stabilizing air cushion for the rotating disc 1.
