Abstract
1441950 Making superconductive wire IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 21 Feb 1975 [27 Dec 1973] 59794/73 Heading B3A [Also in Division H1] A superconducting wire is formed by packing a powder of superconducting alloy; such as niobium titanium and where alloy does not include intermetallic compounds, into an extrusion can be of a stabilizing material, such as copper, and then extruding it at an elevated temperature. The powder is preferably of 0À01-#0À05 micron grain size and may be compacted and sintered before being put in the can. The wire may be cut into sections, bevelled and further extruded or a multifilamentary wire may be produced by using a can of matrix form.
