Abstract

1441938 Fuel mechanism sprockets GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 5 Oct 1973 [12 Oct 1972] 46711/73 Heading F3C A sprocket 16, for feeding ammunition to an automatic gun, has a plurality of teeth 18 each having a member 20 translatable thereon between a maximum radial position providing a minimum opening between such and an adjacent tooth, and a minimum radial position providing a maximum such opening. Each member 20 is spring biased by action on a transverse pin 34 through side walls of the member and in a curved slot in the respective tooth 18, to the maximum radial position, but can be held in the minimum position by a stepped pin 44 in the tooth spring biased outwardly so that a portion 48 engages an enlarged end of a slot in the member 20; retraction of the pin 44 allows outward member movement. Feet inwardly extending of the member side walls locate in curved grooves 22 of the respective tooth 18. Ammunition, constrained between guides 12, 14 approaches three such sprockets 16 and pushes inwardly a projecting member 20 which is then held by the pin 44, until the ammunition is fully located in the sprocket, whereby it retracts the pin to release the member to retain it. The projecting member 20 helps to push the ammunition during movement on from the sprocket. Upon reverse movement of the ammunition, due to feed stop, the action of the sprocket is reversed.
