Abstract
1441927 Illuminating subjects for filming POST OFFICE 12 March 1974 [14 Dec 1972] 57640/72 Heading G2X [Also in Division H4] A subject 2 is illuminated by a source 4 with light pulsed at a frequency of at least 70 Hz so that the illumination appears to the human eye to be continuous, and the reflected light passes through a gate 8 to a T.V. or cine camera 7; the gate being operated at a frequency related to the pulsing frequency so that the camera records during the pulses. The average light intensity is thus comparatively low and discomfort of the subject 2 is thereby reduced. As shown, gate 8 comprises an image intensifier, camera 7 is a T.V. camera fibre optically coupled thereto, and a synchronizing circuit 6 modulates image intensifier 8 and pulses light source 4 via circuits 9 and 5. Preferably the frequency is related to that of a camera scanning circuit 10 to avoid bands appearing on the screen. A source 3 provides steady illumination. In alternatives, the gate 8 is a mechanical shutter, a Kerr cell shutter or a liquid crystal shutter used with or without an image intensifier. The source 4 may be a pulsed Xenon tube or a continuous source having a Kerr cell shutter.
