1441682 Locks R W GERBER 18 Feb 1974 7285/74 Heading E2A The electromagnet which operates the door bolt or controls the ignition circuit of a motor vehicle is energised by a key-operated barreltype lock in which the bitting of the key makes, or causes to be made, a set of contacts which act through an electronic circuit to feed the electromagnet. The rotary barrellike element of the lock comprises a pair of disc-shaped end portions 57, 58, the front one of which has a key-slot, joined by a longitudinal member 50 which is slotted at 52 to guide the key. In the case where a conductive key is used, its nose 402 makes contact with a plate 400 connected to a source of power, e.g. a vehicle battery 300, Fig. 7. The bitting 30 of the key makes contact with, or causes spring-contacts to make contact with, fixed contacts 120 as the key is rotated. This closes one or more of contacts 51-57, Fig. 7 connected to transistors T 1 -T 7 which are selectively connected to an alarm circuit 510-522 responsive to a wrong bitting pattern, and to a relay 320 which energises the bolt releasing solenoid S (Fig. 3, not shown). A key-sensing contact (601, Fig. 9, not shown) may be used to prevent the door being locked with the key in the ignition lock. Additional alarm contacts 756 and 800, and a contact 900 or contacts 920 which enable the vehicle doors to be locked while it is running. Other contacts for controlling the engine ignition may also be included (Fig. 4, not shown).
