Abstract
1441102 Clips PLESSEY CO Ltd 19 Oct 1973 [20 July 1972] 33952/72 Heading E2B [Also in Divisions F2 and H2] A connector for retaining therein one or more elongate members comprises a housing 3 containing a spring 9, the individual coils of which are angularly displaced with respect to its axis when sliding over it an elongate member, which is retained by spring reaction due to the deformation. The elongate member, a wire, is inserted in keyway 7. Another embodiment has two keyways and two wires inserted one from each end. Another has three keyways. The embodiment of Fig. 8 (not shown) for a pipe (74) has four keyways (70), each with a spring (72). An elongate member may be removed from a connector by increasing the skew of its coil spring by a tool, each tooth of which engages one turn of the coil; or it may be screwed out, the coils acting as a thread. The connector parts may be of metal or plastic according to use, which may be for wires, cables, flat strip wiring, printed circuits boards, pipes or scaffold poles. For the elongate members to be tightly held a maximum of two members may be inserted, not diametrically opposite, in one end and one may be inserted from the other end.
