Abstract

1440879 L-Phenylalanine by fermentation AJINOMOTO CO Inc 8 March 1974 [12 March 1973] 10578/74 Heading C2C L-Phenylalanine is produced by culturing an L-phenylalanine-producing mutant of a parent microorganic strain of the genus Brevibacterium under aerobic conditions in an aqueous fermentation medium which contains L-tyrosine, the mutant being capable of growing on a culture medium containing sufficient tryptophan analogue to inhibit growth of the parent strain, being capable of growing on a culture medium containing sufficient phenylalanine analogue to inhibit growth of the parent strain, and requiring L-tyrosine for growth. The mutant may further require L-tryptophan for growth. Preferred mutants are Brevibacterium lactofermentum FERM P-1914, B. lactofermentum FERM P-2476, and B. flavum FERM P-2475. The "phenylalanine analogues" are #-amino-#-phenylpropionic acid, o-fluorophenylalanine, mfluorophenylalanine, p-fluorophenylalanine, #- 2-thienylalanine, #-3-thienylalanine, #-2-furylalanine, #-3-furylalanine, o-aminophenylalanine, p-aminophenylalanine, m-aminophenylalanine, α-amino-#-phenylethane sulphonic acids, #-2- pyrrolalanine, cyclopent-1-en-1-yl-alanine, cyclohex-1-en-1-yl-alanine, #-4-pyridylalanine, #- 4-pyrazolylalanine, p-nitrophenylalanine, #-4- thiazolylalanine, cyclohexylalanine, 2-amino-4- methyl-hex-4-enoic acid, S-(1,2-dichlorovinyl)- cysteine, o-chlorophenylalanine, m-chlorophenylalanine, p-chlorophenylalanine, o-bromophenylalanine, m-bromophenylalanine, p-bromophenylalanine, m-fluorotyrosine, 3-nitrotyrosine, #-phenyl-serine, and 3-iodotyrosine. The "tryptophan analogues" are 6-methyltryptophan, 4-methyltryptophan, naphthylalanines, indolyl-acrylic acid, naphthylacrylic acid, #-(2- benzothienyl) alanine, styrylacetic acid, α- amino-#-indazol-3-yl-propionic acid, 5-fluorotryptophan, 6-fluorotryptophan, 4-fluorotryptophan and 7-azatryptophan.
