Abstract
1440647 Switches for projectile fuzes DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 2 Aug 1974 [1 Oct 1973] 45849/73 Heading F3A A switch for setting the electrical fuze of a shell or a motar bomb for proximity or point detonation, comprises a member 6 carrying one or more electrical conductors 10 that form part of the fuze circuits, the member 6 being rotatable so that none or a selected one of the conductors can be cut by a cutter 9 to set the fuze for its required function. A member 2 supporting the cutter moves axially when the shell or bomb is fired and causes the cutter to sever the selected conductor; but only if a cap 5, rigid with tne member 6, has been rotated previously with the consequence that a blocking pin 3 has been moved out of a notch 4 in the member 2. In the embodiment shown, when the conductor 10 is cut a proximity function is activated; but if instead the cutter moves through a notch 8 in the member 6 the proximity function remains deactivated and the fuze is detonatable only by impact. A printed circuit (not shown) is carried by the member 6. According to the number of conductors, there may be a choice of several different proximity distances or post impact or post firing delay times.
