Abstract
1440618 Cupping K YOSHIZAKI 22 June 1973 [23 June 1972 24 April 1973] 29836/73 Heading B3Q . For ironing a cup-shaped article a punch block 30 and a die block 20 are moved towards each other simultaneously by liners 34, 24 respectively driven from a main shaft 12. via gears 13, 14, cranks 15 and linkages 17, 19 and 16, 18 respectively. As shown the die block carries three dies 21a-21c so spaced that only one acts on a cup at a time. A doming die 23 indents the base of the cup after the ironing stages. Blanks are fed to a holder 73 on the die block from a magazine (71), Fig. 4 (not shown), by a lever (72) pivoted by a finger (74) which is attached to the die block. As the punch block 30 is retracted an ejector punch 32 within the punch 31 is actuated, to remove the cup, by a crank 55 rotated synchronously with the cranks 15 via linkage 44, 46. An air accumulator 43 and air cylinders 41, 42 move the fulcrum pin 49 of the lever 44 to prevent the punch 32 from interfering with the draining action of punch 31. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) in which the dies are relatively movable in the block they are so spaced that two or more dies may operate simultaneously on a cup and are moved towards the punch at different speeds.
