Abstract

1440396 Matrix displays FUJITSU Ltd 29 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 31245/73 Headings G5C and G4H [Also in Division H1] In a display system including a gas discharge display panel with crossed electrode arrays potentials are applied to electrodes adjacent an addressed electrode to reduce the effects of spurious voltages generated in the adjacent electrodes by the addressing potential. Electrodes 0, 1, 2 . . . of the panel are connected to a diode addressing matrix including, AND gates 22, charge storage diodes CSD and inverters 21A, 21B. When electrode O is selected current from source Va flows through transistors Q11, Q21 and diodes D8 and CSD. When timing pulse TP becomes "O", transistor Q4 is turned on and an address voltage V is applied for the backward recovery time of diode CSD. The remaining electrodes, except 8, 16 are clamped to ground through diodes DN. Using a matrix including a second charge storage diode CSD2 connected to each electrode, positive and negative potentials + V and - V can be applied. In another embodiment alternate electrodes are connected via leads a1 a3 . . . b2, b4 . . . on terminal plates 51A, 51B to drivers 52 and clamping circuits 53A, 53B. The latter clamp even or odd group electrodes when an electrode of the other group is selected. The plates 51A, 51B also have conductors a Î 2, a Î 4 ... b Î 1, b x 3 . . . connected to the electrodes and at the clamping potential. These provide a shielding effect for the adjacent leads. Alternatively conductors a x 2 . . . b x 1 . . . are not connected to the electrodes but to clamping circuits similar to 53B; the conductors may be replaced by conductive layers on either side of the leads or by one layer in which the leads are embedded.
