Abstract
1440313 Radial inward flow turbines - casings CAV Ltd 14 Aug 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 39625/72 Headings F1G and F1T The invention relates to a radial inward flow turbine comprising a bladed rotor 11 mounted within a casing 10. The casing 10 is formed in two parts 14, 15 and defines an inlet portion 19 which leads to a volute portion 20 of decreasing crosssectional area away from the inlet portion. The casing also defines a peripheral channel 21 leading from the volute to the periphery of the rotor, also a discharge outlet 16. The casing is formed with grooves 22 in which an elongated strip member 23 is disposed, the strip member being movable along its length by means of an actuating member 24 whereby the strip may overlap itself to a variable extent. Thus when the end of the strip is at position A the overlap is a maximum and the outlet area of inlet portion 19 is a minimum and vice versa when the end of the strip is at position B. The turbine may be driven by exhaust gases discharging from an I.C. engine.
