Abstract

1440190 Degassing oil BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd [trading as EDWARDS HIGH VACUUM INTERNATIONAL] 21 Nov 1973 [23 Nov 1972] 54199/72 Heading B1M [Also in Division H1] Insulating oil from an oil-filled transformer in casing 2 is degassed in chamber 14 whilst the transformer is operating. The oil is heated to 45-60‹C mainly by the transformer but with the aid of auxiliary heater 34 when required. The oil is first filtered from most solid matter in chamber 10 before passing into a vacuum chamber 14 having a central compartment 16 packed with Rasding rings or other column fillers 17 over which the oil flows in a thin film. Control unit 32 monitors pressure in chamber 14 via gauge 21 and controls pump motor 20 to give a pressure within a predetermined range when required. It also monitors the contamination level in casing 2, continuously or intermittently, opening valve 8 at a predetermined level of contamination. Oil pump 24 is activated by level sensing device 22 in conjunction with unit 32. Treated oil is returned to the casing 2 via a permanent magnet filter 26, discharge valve 28 and valve 30. Discharge valve 28 can be made to operate manually or automatically. Alternatively, the filtering and degassing process may be made to work continuously.
