Abstract
1439519 Measuring boring torque/reaction ratio TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 2 Nov 1973 51053/73 Heading E1F [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for determining incipient failure of a bit or its roller-cone bearings comprises means 33 for measuring the surface torque applied to said bit while drilling and means 36 for measuring the vertical reaction on said bit during drilling and a means for dividing surface torque by the reaction to produce a ratio signal. The method is also claimed. By cable 25, derrick 23 supports hook 24, supporting drill string 28 rotated by engine 32 via table 29. The vertical reaction is obtained by subtracting the reading of means 36 from the total weight on string 28. The electronic divider circuit has transconductor unit 40 with input terminals 41, 42, 43 for the torque, reaction and bit diameter signals respectively. The constant bit diameter signal is produced by a source of emf and resistor 46. The output from terminal 50 is connected to a recorder or indicating instrument or alarm and gives signals for representing the factor torque reaction bit diameter.
