Abstract

1438407 Assembling dynamo - electric machines; boring apparatus SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 21 Dec 1973 [27 Dec 1972] 59560/73 Headings B3A and B3C A method of assembling a dynamo-electric machine which includes a rotor 1 and a stator 4, comprises inserting the rotor within the stator, securing a bearing support member 5 on one end, Fig. 3 (not shown), or both ends of the stator, mounting the machine on a machine tool so that the rotor and the or each bearing support are centred by clamping means with respect to the stator bore, forming a bore 7 in the or each support member 5 and inserting a bearing into the or each bore to support the rotor shaft. The rotor 1 is centred in the stator by gap clamps 9 and the rotor shaft 2 is accommodated between centres 11 of the machine tool. Milling cutters 12 are advanced along the centres 11 to mill the bores 7 and means for extracting the swarf are provided. After the bearings (6), Fig. 2 (not shown), have been installed in the bores 7, the gap clamps are removed and carbon brushes inserted. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3, only one bearing support (5) is provided and the rotor is aligned in the stator by means of clamping elements (15) on the machine tool which support the assembly at the opposite end to the member (5). The rotor shaft (14) is supported for machining at the bore (7) of the member (5) by a centre (11) and the bore is milled by a cutter (12) which is slidable on the centre (11).
