Abstract

Duplex telegraphs.-In a duplex telegraph system employing a Wheatstone bridge, the transmitting and receiving devices are connected in the diagonals of the bridge, and the grounding- branch of the line is coupled to two adjacent arms of the bridge. The arms a - d, Fig. 1, each comprise resistance, capacity, and inductance, and the line 18 is coupled to the arms b, d by transformers 14, 15 respectively. In a modification, conductive couplings are provided between the terminals of the coils 9, 16 and 12, 17 respectively. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the coupling-wires are provided with condensers 30, 31, 32, 33. In a further modification, the terminals of the coils 16, 17 are connected through condensers across the terminals of the condensers 8, 11 respectively. To facilitate transmission, the current in the arms a, b is greater than that in the arms c, d, or the ratio of transformation of the transformers 14, 15, Fig. 1, is different.
