Abstract

1438347 Foam-depressant compositions isomerizing long chain olefins CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 11 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 42663/73 Headings C5D and C5E [Also in Division C2] Weakly-foaming detergent compositions comprise a sulphate or sulphonate detergent and, as a foam-depressant, one or more alkali metal or organic base salts of a saturated fatty acid of chain length C 14 to C 21 which has been manufactured by the hydroformylation of a C 13 to C 20 linear olefin in the presence of a rhodium catalyst and oxidation of the resulting aldehyde. The compositions may contain 2À5 to 60À0% by weight of the fatty acid salts, based on the detergent. The fatty acid salts have greater foam-depressant action than soaps of natural fatty acids. C 15 , C 16 and C 18 α-olefins are subjected to double bond isomerization by treatment with Co naphthenate in the presence of carbon monoxide under pressure.
