Abstract
1437897 Esterification of naphthalene dicarbonylic acids TEIJIN Ltd 22 Nov 1974 [24 Nov 1973 (3) 30 Nov 1973 29 March 1974 9 July 1974] 50758/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the preparation of dimethyl 2,6-naphthalene dicarbonylate by reacting 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid with methanol in the presence of an esterification catalyst which comprises at least one of the following components (1) to (5); (1) At least one member selected from metallic molybdenum, a cyanide, thiocyanide, halide, oxyhalide, carboxylic acid salt, oxide, sulphide, oxysulphide or oxysulphate thereof, molybdic, phosphomolybdic and silicomolybdic acids and their sodium, potassium and ammonium salts; (2) A combination of at least one compound from group (1) with at least one oxide, hydroxide, carbonate, halide carboxylic acid salt of cobalt or manganese; (3) At least one member selected from titanium (III) sulphate, titanium (IV) sulphate, titanyl sulphate, titanium trichloride, potassium titanium fluoride, oxalate and tartrate, titanium oxyacetyl acetonate, tetra n-butyl titanate and tetra isopropyl titanate; (4) At least one member selected from the sulphates of iron (III), mercury, indium, aluminium, zinc, tin, copper, beryllium, bismuth, cerium (IV), palladium, vanadium, and zirconium, uranium oxysulphate, ammonium ferric sulphate, potassium, sodium and ammonium aluminium and chrome alums; and (5) At least one member selected from antimony, stannous chloride, cupric bromide, tellurium oxide, selenium sulphide, bismuth sulphide tungstosilicic acid, ammonium tungstate and basic aluminium acetate.
