Abstract

1437320 Reciprocating conveyers BRITISH MATHEWS Ltd 28 Feb 1975 [13 March 1974] 11273/74 Heading B8A A walking beam conveyer suitable for transporting coils of strip steel 20 comprises a moving beam 10 supported on two lever assemblies 30 and provided with coil supports 18. Each assembly has a pair of flanged wheels 46 which run on rails 48, the wheels being prevented from lifting by members 50 mounted on a fixed structure 24. A lever 32 has one end connected to the beam 10 and the other end connected to a rod 38 of an hydraulic jack 40 of which the cylinder is pivotally mounted on the beam. The structure 24 includes longitudinally extending fixed supports 22 which have portions 26 inclined to receive the coils 20 when the moving supports 18 are lowered. The beam 10 is reciprocated longitudinally by an hydraulic jack 52. In operation, the jacks 40 are simultaneously operated to raise the beam 10 which, after being moved longitudinally by the jack 52 while supporting the coils 20, is lowered and then returned longitudinally to its start position. Control circuits determine the sequence of operations of the jacks and sensing devices sense the position and movement of the coils. Devices can be provided for adjusting the orientation of the coils before they are discharged. There may be more than two lever assemblies and more than one horizontal jack. Air jacks may replace the hydraulic jacks or other devices may be used for rotating the levers 32.
