Abstract
1437124 Presenting; clamping and cutting weft; gripper shuttles ALFA-LAVAL BERGEDORFER EISENWERKE GmbH 13 Aug 1973 [11 Aug 1972 8 May 1973] 38258/73 Heading D1E In a gripper shuttle loom a device 2, 3 for cutting and clamping the weft end from a stationary yarn package, a member 25 for opening the grippers of the shuttle, and a device for holding the end of the pick together with actuating mechanisms for these motions are all mounted on a plate 12 which is mounted adjustably weftwise on the sley. Gripper shuttles Figs. 1 and 10. A double acting gripper shuttle 11 has two gripper arms 18, 19 pivoted respectively at 21 and 20, both being biassed shut by a spring 22 and mutually connected by a bolt 24 carrying a member 23 which is acted on by a roller 29 of a stationary member 25 as the shuttle enters its box, to open the grippers. Member 25 is pivotable clockwise against a spring 27 so that member 25 pivots out of the way when the shuttle leaves its box, without opening the grippers. In an alternative embodiment each gripper is on an arm 18, 19 pivoted on the shuttle at 34 and pivoted at 32 to a further arm 30 which is itself pivoted at 33 to the shuttle, biassed by a spring 22 to force the gripper shut and having an opener member 31 to cooperate with member 25. The shuttle also has a plate bearing a guide surface 35 for the weft yarn. Weft, guiding, cutting, clamping and presenting, figures 1 and 3. Weft cutting blades 2a, 2b and clamping jaws 3a, 3b at the inserted pick and clamp the end leading to the package as the sley moves backwards after beat-up. The blades and jaws are mounted on a slide 9 movable in the warpwise direction, and are movable vertically by a cranked arm 7 to seat in a recess 42 in the sley to allow the shuttle to pass and to present the weft, extending from a guide 1, to the shuttle. The clamp and cutters are closed automatically by a roller follow 4a sliding in a slot 4b in a plate 8 as they descend into recess 42. The weft guide 1 is adjustable transversely to the weft direction. Holding end of pick Figures 1 and 10. The pick end may be held by a pair of clamp cheeks 46a, 46b Figure I biassed together by a spring, and which are moved out of the path of the shuttle by a pneumatic piston Alternatively, polyamide brushes may be used to prevent the yarn end springing back, or an end catcher as in Figure 10, comprising a pivoted plate sector 53 having a weft holding edge 55 in a recess thereof, against which the weft is held by a spring 57. An arcuate edge 56 is provided on the plate 53 acts on the opener member 31 of the shuttle to release the weft. The plate is pivoted out of the path of the shuttle by a pneumatic cylinder, (Fig. 11, not shown) or by an arm 70 attached to slide 9. The clamping, cutting and weft end catching devices are provided on both sides of the loom, and may be controlled by cams on a half speed shaft, or alternatively by cams on the crank shaft, in which case the device make one redundant movement every other pick.
