Abstract

1437032 Automatic exchange system PLESSEY CO Ltd 18 March 1974 [4 April 1973] 13039/74 Divided out of 1437031 Heading H4K A bidirectional signalling arrangement on a two-wire power-feeding subscriber line comprises a constant voltage source VL at one end of the line, a balanced modulator 3 for modulating the line voltage with (binary) data signals which are to be transmitted from station 1 to station 2, a series connected voltage regulator 6 at the other end of the line for supplying a stabilized voltage to a threshold detector 4 which is capacitor coupled to the line, so as to detect the incoming voltage modulations and to a current modulator 7 which modulates the series D.C. line current with data signals which are to be transmitted to station 1. In the latter, the current variations appear as voltage changes across series resistors RD and these are detected in a capacitively coupled balanced threshold detector 9. All the devices shown use conventional transistor circuits which are described with reference to Figs. 2-5, not shown. The balanced circuits overcome longitudinal current problems.
