Abstract
143,696. Allt, A. P., and Lock, C. April 25, 1919. No Patent granted (Scaling fee not paid). Foot-cycles or scooters have the footboard frame or support and the wheels formed from sheet metal, the steering-member comprising a tube bifurcated at its lower end to carry the front wheel axle, and the steering - members and footboard frame elements being detachably connected together. The footboard frame 1 is formed from sheet metal cut to the requisite shape and having the longitudinal edges 2 flanged to embrace a board 3, the rear end of the frame being slotted as at 4 to accommodate the rear wheel 7 and the adjacent material of the frame adapted to carry the axle. At its front end, the footboard frame is provided with an arched structure 8 formed by folding sheet metal in such a way that tubular parts 10 are connected to the arch proper by a portion 11 of double thickness. The tubular parts 10 are adapted to be alined with similar parts 16 upon the steering- member 12, a pintle 17 serving to effect a detachable connexion. The arch may be reinforced by a wooden block or by side flanges. The wheels are formed from sheet-metal disks A. which are preferably shaped as shown in Fig. 3 and united by spot-welding along the bottom of the rim 19 receiving the tyre 20. The hub 23 is mounted on a sleeve 22 which, on tightening the nut 24 upon the axle-pin 21. is held against rotation by the pressure of the adjacent frame parts.
