Abstract
1436917 Solid electrolyte; temperature serisitive resistors A LUNDEN B HEED and A KVTST 3 May 1974 [3 May 1973] 19615/74 Headings H1B and H1K A solid electrolyte comprises a sulphate system of the formula where M is an alkali metal ion or a silver ion and Me is a divalent metal ion or where M<SP>1</SP> is an alkali metal ion (provided that in a binary sulphate system, M<SP>1</SP> is not lithium). Examples are:- Li 2 SO 4 -CaSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 -MgSO 4 ; Na 2 SO 4 -ZnSO 4 ; K 2 SO 4 -ZnSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 -Na 2 SO 4 - MgSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 - ZnSO 4 - LiCl; Ag 2 SO 4 - MgSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 -Ag 2 SO 4 -MgSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 -Ag 2 SO 4 - Na 2 SO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 - Ag 2 SO 4 - ZnSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 - Na 2 SO 4 - ZnSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 - Ag 2 SO 4 - AgCl; Li 2 SO 4 - Ag 2 SO 4 - AgBr; Li 2 SO 4 - Ag 2 SO 4 - AgI; Li 2 SO 4 - Ag 2 SO 4 - AgI - MgSO 4 ; Li 2 SO 4 - Ag 2 SO 4 - AgI - MgSO 4 - Na 2 SO 4 ; NaSO 4 - MgSO 4 ; Ag 2 SO 4 -MgSO 4 . Cells are described having various electrode couples and using the solid electrolyte. The abrupt charge in resistivity with temperature may be used in temperature sensing elements.
