Abstract
1436300 Prostaglandins UPJOHN CO 21 Nov 1974 [23 Nov 1973 8 Jan 1974 (4)] 50439/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises optically active prostaglandins of the formula or racemates thereof, wherein either D is a radical of the formula in which case A is -CH 2 CH 2 or cis-CH = CH- or D is a radical of the formula in which case A is cis-CH = CH-; 2 is 2,4 - diacetamidophenyl, 4 - acetomido - 1- naphthyl, 4 - benzamido - 1 - naphthyl or 4- ureido - 1 - naphthyl, wherein W is 1,4- phenylene; and Y is and their preparation. The esters are prepared by reacting the mixed anhydrides formed between the appropriate prostenoic or prostadienoic acids and alkyl chloroformates with compounds of the formula ZOH. p-Benzamidophenol is prepared by reacting p-hydroxyaniline with benzoic anhydride. p - (p - Acetamidobenzamido)phenol is made by forming the mixed anhydride of p-acetamido benzoic acid and isobutyl chloroformate and reacting it with h-aminophenol. Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral, sublingual, buccal, rectal, intravaginal intrauterine and topical administration, contain the above prostaglands together with pharmaceutical acceptable carriers. The esters possess the same pharmacological properties as the corresponding free acids.
