Abstract

1435902 Percussion drum PREMIER DRUM CO Ltd 6 Nov 1973 [23 Sept 1972] 44098/72 Heading G5J A percussion drum comprises a shell 1 within which is a lining 12 of sheet material spaced from it by rims 2. Shell 1 is of metal and its rims 2 support lining 12, which is a pliable sheet rolled into cylindrical shape with edges abutting 13, and of diameter such that end marginal external surfaces bear against rims 2. Heads or skins 3 and 4 are wrapped round hoops 5 and 6 and tensioned by counterhoops 7 and 8 by a plurality of rods as 9 and 10, engaging fitting 11. Chamber A serves as a secondary resonance chamber. The embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown) is similar but the shell (14) is wooden with an annular rib of wood (15) as a spacer secured inside it adjacent each end. The lining may be of plastic, plywood or metal. The invention can be applied to an existing drum by rolling the lining cylinder and then inserting and holding it spaced from the shell.
