Abstract

1435729 Alicyclic amines NARD INSTITUTE Ltd 11 Oct 1973 [11 Oct 1972 (2)] 47520/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds having the general formula wherein R 1 to R 7 are hydrogen, C 1 to C 6 alkyl or phenyl; X is hydrogen, C 1 to C 6 alkyl or aminomethyl; m is 0 or 1; n is 1 or 2 and may be 3 when m = 0, and a double bond may be present between the positions indicated by the dotted line, or a compound wherein the group -CH 2 NH 2 is replaced by the group and n = 2 and either R 6 or R 7 is CH 3 , all other R groups and X being hydrogen, m being 0, or all the R groups and X are hydrogen, m being 1, there being no double bond in these compounds. They may be prepared by hydrogenating an alicyclic cyano compound of the formula wherein X<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, C 1 to C 6 alkyl, aminomethyl or cyano; and compounds of the formula where m = 0 and R or R<SP>1</SP> is CH 3 , or m = 1 and R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrogen, are prepared by treating the corresponding 2-aminomethyl compound with acrylonitrile and reducing the resulting -CH 2 NHCH 2 CH 2 CN group. The starting materials of Formula II may be prepared by Friedel-Crafts reaction, for example from acrylonitrile and cyclopentadiene. The compounds of the invention may be used as cationic surface active agents and as antifungal agents.
