Abstract

1435668 Piezo-electric transducers P R MALLORY & CO Inc 9 Aug 1974 [9 Aug 1973] 35257/74 Heading H4J An audible alarm comprising a solid state amplifier drive circuit coupled to a piezoelectric transducer 14 (Fig. 3) to produce an audible signal is mounted to a panel 60 with a cover 33 enclosing components of the solid state drive circuit The piezoelectric transducer 14 (Fig. 3) includes two drive electrodes (13, 15), Fig. 1 (not shown), and a feedback electrode (11) connected to an NPN transistor 16. The circuit also includes resistors 21, 23, 26 and power terminals 28. The components are mounted on a printed circuit board 30. A cover 33 with a cup-shaped shield is carried on board 30 by bent-over tabs 36 extending through mating holes 38 in board 30. Board 30 fits into a housing 40 against a ledge 42. The piezo-electric transducer 14 is attached by resilient adhesive 46 to a ring-shaped projection 44 on housing 40. The adhesive may be silicone rubber compound 48. Transducer 14 is connected by wires 31 to board 30. Flexible fingers 50 extend from a face 52 of housing 40. Each finger 50 includes a barb 54 comprising a ramped entry surface 56 and a stop ledge 58. As shown the flexible fingers 50 follow a circular pattern (51), Fig. 2 (not shown), to mount the alarm device 12 to panel 60 the entry edges of the fingers 50 are inserted in a panel aperture 62. The fingers 50 flex and snap into the position shown. A spacer 74 is used when the panel 60 is thinner than the distance between face 52 and stop ledge 58.
