Abstract

1435507 Sledges B J S WATTS 26 July 1973 [29 April 1972] 20026/72 Heading B7B A sledge has a main frame 1 of tubular steel bar 2 bent to form a bight 2a at the front end and curved at the rear end to form bowed portions 5 extending into runners 6 which independently support the sledge. A pivoted bogie having a pivot pin 10 has similarly bowed portions 12 extending into runners 13. The sledge has transverse struts 3, 16, 17 and is steered by a prone rider gripping points A or by a sitting rider operating removable pedals, not shown. Alternatively, handles, a tiller or joystick may be provided. Brakes which dig into the surface of the snow may also be provided. The frame and runners may be circular, oval, square or other polygonal section tubing. The tubing may be sheathed in aluminium, stainless steel or plastics tubing.
