Abstract
1435198 Sintering iron ore NIPPON STEEL CORP 10 May 1973 [10 May 1972 8 June 1972 26 June 1972 6 July 1972] 22317/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division F4] Iron ore is sintered in a conventional downdraught continuous sintering machine wherein moisture (as liquid water or saturated steam) is added to the surface of the sinter, after the top surface has been sintered, to cool the sintered material to prevent further conversion. The moisture is preferably added in amount such that the relative humidity of the exhaust gases from the bed is from 5 to 20%, to enhance the efficiency of any electrostatic dust precipitators. Also the sinter bed, before removal from the machine can be utilized as a dust filter for dust laden gases produced in later mechanical operations on the sinter produced by the above method.
