Abstract

1434402 Two-part couplings PLESSEY CO Ltd 1 Aug 1974 [30 Aug 1973] 40811/73 Heading H2E A plug and socket connector comprises two identical one-piece insulating housings 1 each with crossed slots 5, 6 (indicated by crosses 4) to receive respectively socket contacts 15 and plug contacts 16 and with locating holes 8 and a locating lug 7 at each end, the plug and socket being mated by bringing together the raised surfaces 2. Each contact is stamped from a sheet of resilient conducting material, the mating part 29 of the plug contact having a tapered end (30, Fig. 3, not shown). A socket or plug contact can be withdrawn from the rear of its housing by insertion of a wedge-shaped tool (not shown) from the mating face to bear on an oblique surface 23, 33 to disengage a latching surface 22, 34 from a respective shoulder 13, or a plug terminal can be withdrawn from the front of its housing after flattening tags 35 engaging the rear surface of the housing.
